US employers must check to make sure all employees, regardless of citizenship or national origin, are allowed to work in the US. If you are not a citizen or lawful permanent resident, you may need to apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) in order to work in the US. Spouses of E and L visa holders are eligible.

How do I apply?
• Fill out Form 1-765 downloaded from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services
• Attach a copy of your 1-94 card as well as a copy from your spouse (person authorized to work in US)
• Include 2 passport photos (full frontal color)
• Application fee is $180
• Send to BCIS TSC, PO Box 851041, Mesquite TX 75185-1041
• Processing time is approximately 90 days
• After receiving EAD, you can apply for a SSN at your local Social Security office
